Combination Therapy

Clients may receive occupational therapy plus feeding therapy, integrated Listening systems therapy, speech/ language therapy and DIR/ floortime therapy.  In addition, we offer coaching and counseling for individuals, couples or families.  A final decision regarding your therapy package is usually made at the feedback session and is based on what your goals are and the needs of your child.

The purpose of combining occupational therapy (OT) with other therapies, such as listening therapy or speech-language therapy, is to create the most effective intervention possible in the swiftest time frame possible.

We have found through our research in conjunction with the Sensory Processing Disorder Foundation, that combining OT with other therapies in an intensive model which emphasizes parent education and coaching, that we can “jump start” the change process in the nervous system. By employing multiple therapies concurrently, we employ more effective stimulation that  occurs in multiple sensory systems simultaneously. These systems play key foundational roles in motor planning, language, learning, and auditory and visual processing, and contribute significantly to cognitive and emotional development.

Combined therapy is not always recommended. The decision to combine therapies is made individually and depends on the client’s age, needs, and sensory processing abilities and other clinical issues.
